QUESTION NO. 22
QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy
To ask the Chief Executive Officer further to recent Adamstown SDZ quarterly report can an update be given on the plans for Adamstown Train Station, and the district centre that is proposed for there. Will the district centre include parking for those wishing to park and go on the train, and in the interim what improvements are planned in relation to park and ride facilities associated with the train station, also cycle lanes to the Station, and also when is it planned to open Adamstown Boulevard as far as the "Old Tandy's Lane" so that residents from Shackleton and Hallwell can walk to the train station and does the Council Planning Department liaise with Irish Rail on these matters?
REPLY:
Planning permission (Reg. Ref. SDZ20A/0008) was granted on 17th September 2020 for construction of phase one of the Adamstown District Centre which comprises a mixed-use commercial and residential development of c.36,621 sqm (gross floor area excluding multi-storey car park) in buildings ranging in height from 4-9 storeys. The development includes the following:
It is noted that a temporary park and ride facility providing for 280 spaces is currently located on lands to the west of Adamstown Station. This is to be retained in its current position during phase one of the development of the District Centre. In addition, 60 park and ride spaces are to be provided within the proposed multi-storey car park.
The 100 cycle spaces at the station are to be retained. Dedicated segregated cycle tracks will be provided on both sides of Station Road/Avenue and design will be in line with the provisions of the National Cycle Manual.
SDCC await a reply from the Developer on the matter of the opening of the section of Adamstown Boulevard referred to. In previous communications, they have indicated that it should open by mid-2021.
The Land Use Planning and Transport Department hold regular update meetings with both Irish Rail and the National Transport Authority which provides a forum to discuss a variety of issues such as those raised.
