QUESTION NO. 5

QUESTION: Councillor Shane Moynihan

To ask the Chief Executive to outline what actions relating to hedging and vegetation are being taken to remove opportunities for drug dealing and other anti-social behaviour in the Griffeen Avenue area, especially in the vicinity of Lucan Community National School.

REPLY:

The Public Realm Section have been liaising with the Gardaí and have held a joint inspection of the site to identify the issues in question. The hedge is within the grounds of the National School and responsibility for its maintenance is a matter for the school authorities. The pruning of the hedge on the Buirg An Rí Glen side of the fence is carried out by the Public Realm Section. In agreement with An Garda Siochána, a section of the hedge in the vicinity of the pedestrian entrance between the school and the housing estate will be cut back to reduce cover and increase the level of passive supervision available.
