QUESTION NO. 11
QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy
To ask if there are any plans for Vesey Park in terms of any additional facilities.
REPLY:
Vesey Park (c. 3ha) is between Lucan village and the N4. It is bounded by the N4, a field to the north, large suburban gardens and the original access road into Lucan Village on the south-west. The Griffeen River flows through the park entering from under the N4.
This park is one of several along the Griffeen and is separated from a larger park called the Griffeen Valley Park by the N4. Developments in the park to facilitate recreational use include the installation of paths, a pedestrian bridge and construction of an “Eco-house” to store street cleaning equipment which incorporates habitats for birds, bats and insects.
The park is a focus for passive recreation. It provides a through route to Lucan village to residents from the nearby estate. Dog walkers exercise their dogs in the park. The woodlands are used by children for adventurous play.
Recent improvements of facilities in the park include the upgrade of both vehicle entrance in 2019 and 2020. This involved the replacement of the barriers with ornamental gates in keeping with the park. Apple trees were planted at the rear of Vesey Park estate under the Participatory budget scheme a number of years ago.
While there are no current plans for additional facilities, routine maintenance of the park which includes grass cutting, litter picking, vegetation management etc. will continue on a regular basis.
