QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor Carly Bailey

In light of the passing of my motion: That this Council ensures that all future contracts entered into with private contractors to carry out works on behalf of this local authority, will ensure that a clause will be included that states that glyphosate based products can no longer be used by them or the Local Authority, in relation to any work that is carried out on our behalf. Can the Chief Executive please outline how this will be implemented and timelines for that.

REPLY:

The Chief Executives report on M4 for the September meeting stated : “It would therefore not be currently feasible to omit use of glyphosate from all future contracts” for reasons detailed in the full report. However, the report does state “this Council will continue in its efforts to reduce the use of glyphosate in its weed control operations and in keeping with the National Pollinator and National Biodiversity Plans.”  This remains the position and the efforts in this regard will continue.
