QUESTION NO.17

QUESTION: Councillor Eoin Ó Broin

To ask the CEO, if it is common across the county for the foul water drainage systems associated with housing developments to utilize a temporary foul water storage tank where there is inadequate foul water infrastructure to handle daytime flows of foul water? Could he prepare a report on same?

REPLY:

It is preferable not to have to attenuate foul discharges by way of storage tanks, as these require ongoing maintenance and cleaning and can cause nuisance.

Foul water storage or attenuation tanks on drainage systems pre discharge to public sewers can be an engineering consideration where capacity constraints exist in receiving sewers.

Foul water drainage is a matter for Irish Water.  Guidance and specifications on foul water drainage are available on Irish Water's website: www.water.ie
