MOTION NO. 6
MOTION: Councillor E. Murphy
That South Dublin County Council amends its policy on responses to queries by elected members to Housing List position requests. This change would follow the policies of other local authorities in Dublin by providing the list position and would provide clarity to applicants who are seeking housing support.
REPORT
The Choice Based Letting (CBL) system was introduced in this Council's Allocations Scheme in October 2011 as the primary method of allocation/offer of accommodation. This means that when a new or vacant property in social housing stock is to be made available for allocation, that property is advertised through CBL and any eligible housing applicants can express an interest in this property through the CBL website - the property is then offered to the applicant who has the longest time on the housing list of those that expressed interest. Accordingly, our Allocations team no longer maintain an order of priority or social housing list as was done prior to the introduction of CBL and, therefore, cannot provide a position on the social housing list to applicants or Elected Members.
