MOTION NO. 1
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
Following on from reports from members of the public regarding anti-social behaviour in the Thirty Acres and in Dodder Valley Park, involving intimidating behaviour by groups of youths who are gathering in both locations and verbally and physically threatening people who are walking through both parks, this Area Committee calls on the Chief Executive to increase the presence of Park Rangers in both locations, to give reassurance to the Public.
REPORT:
The Council's Public Realm Section has invested substantial sums in boundary fencing at Bancroft Park and kissing gates at Dodder Valley Park in the past 12 to 24 months, to deal with issues relating to scramblers and quad bikes gaining entry to both parks. Additional work has also been done recently in Bancroft Park to clean up some of the entrances to the park and to encourange more use of the park, and it is hoped that anti-social behaviour will reduce in the park if legitimate usage of the park can be increased. Park Rangers visit both parks as part of their routine patrols, these patrols will be examined to see if their patrols can be done in a more regular and planned manner.
