MOTION NO. 3

MOTION: Councillor K. Mahon

With a view to adding to the recreational green space in Tallaght Town Centre Council to look at the attached sites and report back regarding the feasibility of landscaping them in a more environmentally friendly and more aesthetically pleasing way. Regarding the green site at Belgard Square South Council report on whether the site can be improved through tree planting, recreational furniture, the development of a mini forest or other measures.

REPORT:

While the Council's Public Realm Section cuts the grass on the site adjacent to Circle K on Belgard Square South, the Council does not own this site.  It is in the ownership of a third party, the Council therefore is not in a position to carry out any landscaping works to this site.

In relation to sites 1 to 4 identified in the area stretching from the library square to the civic theatre, site number 1 is the subject of a lease to a third party, the Council has no right of access to carry out work to this site.

Part of sites 2 & 3 fall within the maintanenance area for the Luas and are under the control of TII.  Any plans to carry out work to these areas would require the consent of TII.  These sites are limited in terms of potential for landscaping.

Site number 4 is in the charge of the Council and forms part of the area included in the public realm improvements scheme from Innovation Square down to the Civic Square, which was presented to the Tallaght ACM in June of this year.

It is proposed to review sites 2 & 3 following completion of the scheme from Innovation Square down to the Civic Square, which includes site number 4 as mentioned above.
