QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor Liam Sinclair
To ask the Chief Executive that management provide an update on the plan to establish a tree nursery in the council passed by councillors at the Tallaght ACM on January 27th. (Motion 64924).
REPLY:
The establishment of a tree nursey was discussed with Teagasc, who provide advice on agriculture and horticulture matters. The launch of a tree nursery is a longterm project involving the purchase of machinery, the sourcing of skilled staff and the identification of a suitable, secure location. A production cycle of 4 years would be required to achieve the required tree diameter. The estimated cost of the establishment of a tree nursery and tree production is €200,000. The Council does not intend proceeding with the establishment of a tree nursery as it is felt that trees can be purchased at an acceptable price from commercial nurseries in operation.
