QUESTION NO. 10
QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy
To ask the CEO to give an update on the possibility of recycling facilities being located in the land enclosed within the Woodies site in Lucan Village, and if he will make a statement on the matter.
REPLY:
South Dublin Council carried out an inspection at the land enclosed within Woodies site in Lucan village on the 22nd September 2020 to determine whether the carpark area is suitable for the lucation of recycling facilities. We found out that this carpark is a suitable location for recycling facilities if the management of the shopping centre can offer us four car parking spaces for the recycling facilities. There are enough car parking spaces in this shopping centre. An email was sent to the management of the Woodies shopping centre on 22nd September 2020 asking for permission to locate recycling facilities at their site. On 24th September we received a reply refusing permission, therefore it will not be possible to proceed with the provision of bring banks at this location.
It is to be noted that a total of 21 sites have been investigated in the county. These are distributed as follows:
In North Clondalkin the following areas have been investigated:
All of the owners and the residents living within 50m of the above sites except for the proposed bottle bank along Neilstown Road have objected to the provision of bring banks in these areas . The Neilstown Bottle bank is still under investigation.
The following sites have also been investigated in other areas of Clondalkin:
The owners and residents of the locations listed 1 to 3 have objected to the provision of bring banks in these areas, a response is still awaited in relation to Bawnogue Church car park.
In Newcastle area, the following sites have been investigated:
The owners of these sites have rejected requests from the Council to locate bottle banks in these areas.
In the Lucan area, Hilcrest Tesco and Tesco Extra in Liffey Valley Shopping centres have failed to reply to our request despite repeated visits to meet the management of the shopping centre. Fonthill Railway Station ,Lucan has also rejected our request.
Also two sites in the Tallaght area which had been considered for bring sites have been ruled out as permission was not forthcoming from the landowners.
