MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, September 16, 2020

MOTION NO. 13

MOTION: Councillor Eoin Ó Broin

Cathaoirleach's Business

"That this Area Committee agrees to provide Clondalkin Drama Group with a place to put a Storage Container, and if possible also a Storage Container itself. Following the granting by South Dublin County Council of Planning Permission for the Nursing home on the grounds of the Presentation Convent, the Drama Group have been forced to vacate the storage space they have had three for decades and so are in need of a new storage space. Given that SDCC provides extensive supports to Sports Clubs support should be extended to arts and culture clubs too."

REPORT:

Storage is a common issue for amateur and professional theatre groups and usually the Council do not provide such facilities directly.

An option for the group to explore is to engage with other local groups or clubs in the area on a shared space or facility. The community development team can provide a list of other groups in the wider area who may be able to assist.

The 2020 community grants is now open which may assist the group with funding should an appropriate solution be identified. Furthermore, a second round of Community Enhancement Programme funding, administered by the LCDC, will be advertised shortly. The group are advised to refer to the eligibility criteria for both schemes on what can/cannot be funded and a member of the community department can advise on this.

Details of the community grants are now available on the Council's website, as will details of the Community Enhancement Programme when opened.
