QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons

"To ask the Chief Executive to issue a report into Christmas grants that will be available to provide events for Christmas due to Covid. What will the grants cover?  Events will need to be well planned in advance. These would include Children Santa events and senior Christmas events.  Who should community centre and groups send proposals to?"

REPLY:

A revised community grants framework was presented at the July Council Meeting and is now open for applications.

The community grants programme is aimed at providing financial assistance to community and voluntary groups who are responding to locally identified needs within their communities.

The community grants portal will be open on a rolling basis to the end of the year and applications will be assessed in turn as they are received.

Application may only be made on line and are available in the link below.

Community groups have the opportunity to apply for a wide range of grants via the online grant application form.

Community event funding is also available, including funding for community celebration events. Groups should be advised to select the community events funding application form from the drop down options.

The community events funding is designed to assist community groups to assist groups meet some of the costs associated with organising community celebration events, such as the Christmas celebration events referred to in this item. It would be anticipated that funds requested from under the grant scheme would be no more than a maximum of 50% of the total costs of the event.

Organising groups should be encouraged to liaise with the local community development team to discuss their event proposals and gain advice on making their funding applications.
