MOTION NO. 1

MOTION: Councillor Yvonne Collins

To ask the Chief Executive to consider installing CCTV cameras around the Perrystown Playspace to deter anti social behaviour and allow the community to enjoy this community resource.

REPORT:

South Dublin County Council is currently undergoing an extensive audit by the Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) with regard to the provision of and the monitoring of CCTV cameras by the local authority. On conclusion of the audit, the DPC will issue a report with findings and recommendations.

The DPC has raised issues specific issues that relate to the use of CCTV in playgrounds Pending the isssue of the DPC report and findings, there are no plans at the present time to install any CCTV systems in Playgrounds/Playspaces.  CCTV in public places is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation and a Data Protection Impact Assessment in respect of installation of CCTV at the proposed location would have to be carried out in the first instance, along with public consultation, by the Council before the matter could be further considered.

The enforcement of anti social behaviour is a matter for the Gardai.
