FILLING OF CASUAL VACANCY ON SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL IN ACCORDANCE WITH S.19 OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 2001 FOLLOWING THE ELECTION TO SEANAD EIREANN OF COUNCILLOR M. SEERY KEARNEY

REPLY:

As a result of the election of Councillor Mary Seary Kearney to Seanad Éireann on Saturday 27th June 2020, a casual vacancy has occurred on South Dublin County Council (Rathfarnham- Templeogue Electoral Area).

Section 19 of the Local Government Act 2001 provides that a casual vacancy shall be filled by the co-option by the Local Authority of a person to fill the vacancy and such co-option shall be made at the next meeting of the local authority after the expiration of 14 days from the occurrence of the vacancy or as soon after the expiration of the 14 days as circumstances permit. 

Ms. Lynn McCrave has been duly nominated by Fine Gael, being the registered political party who nominated Councillor Seery Kearney for election, and in accordance with Section 19 (5) Ms. Lynn McCrave's written consent to her proposed co-option has been received. 

Members are required to ratify the co-option of Ms. Lynn McCrave at today’s meeting.
