MOTION NO. 26

MOTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

That the Chief Executive reports on the current progress for the ball wall and teen space area off the Newcastle Road, including the reinstatement of the grass area for ball games and considers re-orientating the basketball area lengthways into the tarmac area so that the ball wall can be used for tennis, hurling or football at the same time as basketball is being played, which would provide for a more efficient use of the area.

REPORT:

Consultants for the teenspace are progressing with the designs for the facility. The ball wall is substantially complete and proving to be a very popular provision in the area. As basketball seems to be highly popular within the space the Council is now considering provision of basketball as a seperate provision within this area as part of the next delivery of the teenspace programme (Please see seperate headed item on this months agenda). This will allow the ball wall to be simultaneously used for other sports and maximise the use of the facility.  There are some small, final works to be completed as part of the ball wall works which were delayed due to the Covid 19 shut down. These works, including the reinstatement of the grass area, are programmed for early July.
