Tuesday, June 23, 2020

QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

To ask the Chief Executive for a report on the number, location and condition of Biodiversity sites within this LAC.

REPLY:

There are 8 locations in the Lucan/Palmerstown/Fonthill LEA where the grass cutting regime has been adapted to enhance biodiversity having regard to the National Pollinator Plan. The locations are Ballyowen Park, Collinstown Park, Griffeen Valley Park, Lucan Demesne, Waterstown Park, Fonthill Road, Ardeevin Estate and Fforster Estate. Waterstown Park accounts for the largest area at 7.2 hectares.

It is intended to carry out ecological surveys in 2020 of existing meadows and evaluate our success to date in terms of supporting insects and wildlife. This will allow us to also evaluate how successful we have been to date and provide guidance when considering other locations for this reduced mowing approach.
