MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor C. O'Connor

To ask the Chief Executive to confirm his plans to continue to facilitate the provision of Grave spaces in our Cemeteries throughout the County and will he make a statement in the matter.

REPLY:

South Dublin County Council own and operate 8 burial grounds. There are grave spaces/plots available in 3 burial grounds. Pre-purchase conditions are in place prioritising availability for senior citizens in Newcastle and local residents in Saggart. Graves cannot be purchased in advance in Bohernabreena Cemetery.

There are over 1,400 new plots available in these 3 burial grounds and there are a further 4,000 plots that can be developed.

Based on the historic demand, this will provide an adequate number of new plots for over 10 years.

The Council remains committed to providing burial grounds for the County and is developing plans for future additional provision.
