QUESTION NO. 24

QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy

To ask the Chief Executive how many applications there were to go on the supplement register prior to this year's General Election broken down by electoral division, electoral area and constituency, and how do the numbers of applications compare with the numbers of applications prior to the 2016 General Election

REPLY:

In relation to the General Election 26th February 2016 the Polling day order was announced on the 3rd February 2016 and the closing date for receipt of Supplement application forms to be added to the supplement was the 9th February 2016. The live register had only been published on the 1st February 2016 therefore the no. of Electors added to the supplement to the live register was very low.

A total of 1,100 supplement applications forms were received and processed as follows.

                         General Election 2016

Constituency

No. of supplement forms received.

Dublin South West

601

Dublin Mid West

448

Dublin South Central

51

Total no.s

1,100

General Election 2020

A total of 6,861 supplement application forms were received and processed as follows.

Constituency

No of supplement forms received.

Dublin South West

3447

Dublin Mid West

3125

Dublin South Central

289

TOTAL

6861

The reason for the large nos of Supplement forms processed in the 2020 General Election is because there were 3 supplements in the same registration year.

The Local Electoral Area boundary Committee report No 2. In 2018 recommended new Local Electoral Areas (LEAs)to be created. These came into effect prior to the 2020 General Election with the increase to seven LEA’s and newly named Local Electoral Areas.

It is not possible therefore to draw comparisons in relation to no.s on the Supplements in LEA’s for the  2016 General Election against the no.s in the 2020 General Election.
