QUESTION NO. 4

QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

To ask Chief Executive for an up to date report on the Village initiative plans for Lucan village.

REPLY:

SDCC is currently working on three separate projects for Lucan Village.  The first is the Canal Loop Cycle Scheme which aims to link both the Royal and Grand Canal via Lucan.  A presentation on this scheme was brought before the members at the February ACM.  The next stage for this project is informal consultation with the community however, due to current Covid 19 restrictions on public gatherings it is anticipated that this element of the project will not take place until late Summer.  The second scheme for Lucan is the upgrade, improvement and repurposing works for Lucan Village.  A brief is currently being finalised which will be tendered in the coming weeks for these works. The scheme will include the Village Green, the promenade at Weirview/Liffey Bridge and include the entrance at Watery Lane/St Andrews Lodge, Main Street and the Liffey bridge access. It is anticipated that following the tender process design consultants will be appointed in quarter 3 2020 and a proposed part 8 being brought before the members in quarter 4 2020.  The third scheme for Lucan which will be undertaken by separate tender process is to engage branding consultants to develop a strategy for Lucan Village showcasing its USP's and its "Destination Town" status. This study will include provision for Lucan specific signage, wayfinding and orientation.
