QUESTION: Councillor E. O'Brien

To ask the Chief Executive to update this area committee in relation to illegal encampment on the old school site adjacent to Foxborough estate following the recent court order directing those in occupation of the site to vacate it and to further outline steps that will be taken to cleanse and secure the site once it has been vacated.

REPLY:

The site was vacated by the illegal occupiers on Wednesday 18^th March and the entrance to the site was secured on that date. On Friday 27^th March, the Council received reports that there was an attempt to access the site again. The Council responded immediately, and additional reinforcements were put in place to block access.

On the evening of Friday 17^th April, notification was received from residents regarding attempts to enter the site. Staff from Traveller Accommodation Unit and the Council’s contractors attended the site but there was no evidence of any person’s present.

On Monday 20^th April, there was an extensive clean -up operation by the contractor on the site and works were undertaken internally within the site to reduce the risk of the site being accessed.
