QUESTION NO. 34

QUESTION: Councillor Shane Moynihan

To ask the Chief Executive what role is being played by South Dublin County Council in supporting the Dublin Fleadh 2020 which is being held in the County in Lucan, as a significant tourism event?

REPLY:

The Tourism Events and Festivals Grant Scheme for 2020 was launched in early February, 2020 and seeks applications from interested parties from across the County. Qualifying applications can receive up to €7,500 depending on the number of out of county and out of country visitors the event attracts. The event organisers must also show that they have used the Dublin’s Outdoors branding in pre event publicity and at the event. An information document and application form can be downloaded from the Council’s website at https://www.sdcc.ie/en/services/sport-and-recreation/tourism/

The council has been in contact with the organisers of the Fleadh since August, 2019, and sent an application to that organisation in February, 2020. The council made further communication with the organisers in March 2020 and did not receive an application before the closing date for receipt of applications on Friday 24 April, 2020.

The Council’s Community Department has also sent information to the organisers in relation to this event.

The organisers have indicated to the council that the event has been postponed and are hopeful it would be rescheduled when circumstances allow.
