COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN/PALMERSTOWN/FONTHILL AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, May 26, 2020
MOTION NO. 14
MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
This Committee asks that the Chief Executive write to the NTA/TII requesting financial support for the proposed segregated junction at Kennelsfort road/R148 given that this is in line with the objectives of the current CDP and has now a greater urgency given the proposed road adjustments at this location to meet the needs of BusConnect as well as access to the new Children’s Hospital, and that the Chief Executive indicate what provision he intends to both part-fund and schedule the design of this long awaited piece of essential infrastructure.
MOVED WITHOUT DEBATE
REPORT:
South Dublin County Council wrote to the Minister for Transport and Sport and Minister Shane Ross advised that Regional Roads are self funding by Local Authorities since 2015.
The provision of an interchange at this location is an objective on the 2016-2022 County Development Plan but it is not included in the 2020-2022 Capital Investment Programme.
There are minor R182 and Kennelsfort adjustments associated with Bus Connects at this junction. The outcome of the public consultation process will decide what measures will be provided for Bus Connects at this location.
The existence or not of an interchange at this location is likely to have very little effect on journey time to the new Children's Hospital.
Finally, if there ever is to be an interchage provided at this location, there will be a considerable increase in east and west bound traffic within Palmerstown Village from the Oval junction to Kennelsfort Road.
