QUESTION NO. 24

QUESTION: Councillor Alan Hayes

To ask the Chief Executive if there are any short term lets in Palmerstown village that have been registered with the Council since the change in legislation last year and to explain what is the process for registering complaints in this regard.

REPLY:

The Council maintains a record of all properties that have registered with it as engaging in short-term letting.

However, in accordance with Item 49 of the Regulation of Short-Term Letting’s Frequently Asked Questions piece, issued by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, the contents of this record are not to be made public. As such, no confirmation as to the existence, or lack thereof, of registrations in Palmerstown village may be given.

If an individual believes that short-term letting may be occurring in the absence of appropriate registration, this is a matter for the Council’s Planning Enforcement Unit, to whom a complaint can be made. This will initiate an investigation into unauthorised development which will determine whether registration by the Respondent is required.

The Complainant will be informed of the progress of the investigation, in line with the Council’s statutory obligations, i.e. on the issuance of a Warning Letter, on the issuance of an Enforcement Notice if deemed necessary, and on the conclusion of the investigation.
