QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

Can the Manager responsible please supply information on how often the quality of the water in the Glenaulin Park stream is tested and include in the report the quality of the water for the period August to Dec 2019.

REPLY:

The Glenaulin Stream is not on the EPA Operational Monitoring list under the Water Framework Directive, therefore it is not routinely sampled, and was not sampled in the August to December 2019 period. Routine sampling occurs at a number of locations on the Liffey, the Griffeen, the Camac, the Dodder and the Owendoher Rivers. We take non-routing sample in other water bodies from time to time and the Glenaulin Stream will be sampled in February.

The River Dodder has been prioritised for inspection and water quality improvement work in the River Basin Management plan 2018 to 2021 and all other rivers and streams, including the Glenaulin, will be considered for specific improvement work in the next cycle of the River Basin Management Plan.

It is anticipated the tools and optimisations developed in the Dublin Urban Rivers LIFE project for pollution reduction and water quality improvement will be applied to other streams in the County, including the Glenaulin Stream, when that project is completed.
