QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"To ask the Chief Executive for a report into what sewerage arrangements have been made for the new houses in Newcastle, in particular around Peamount Road as long term residents of Newcaslte are very concerned."
REPLY:
Irish Water was established under the Water Services Act 2013 to be the company responsible by statute for owning, operating and maintaining water and wastewater infrastructure and delivering water services and wastewater services in Ireland, and to take on the functions and powers conferred previously to Local Authorities.
This particular issue is a matter for Irish Water and this question is being referred onto them on your behalf for a more detailed reply.
With regard to the provision of foul sewerage and watermains for new developments, this is a matter for Irish Water to assess and confirm to SDCC as the Planning Authority that the proposals are adequate.
We understand that Irish Water will provide for some of the new development to the South East of the village by the installation of a new 375mm foul sewer on Main Street which will discharge to the 450mm foul crossing Aylmer Road. Also, development on the South Western side of the village will be catered for by a new pumping station on Peamount Road and this will also accommodate the foul catchment for the existing pumping station on that road.
Members are reminded that Irish Water have established a Local Representative Service Desk which is committed to giving speedy responses. This Service Desk can be contacted at localrepsupport@water.ie or at 1890 178 178
