COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN/PALMERSTOWN/FONTHILL AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, February 25, 2020
QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor Shane Moynihan
To ask the Chief Executive for a report, in tabular form, for the number of reports of illegal dumping in the Lucan and Palmerstown-Fonthill electoral areas for the years 2018 and 2019, and the number of successful prosecutions which followed these reports.
REPLY:
All incidents of illegal dumping reported or detected in any area are investigated by the Council's Litter Warden Service and all dumped material is searched for evidence. Where evidence is found, appropriate enforcement action is taken under the Litter Pollution Act 1997, as amended. Increasingly, it is found that no personal information relating to polluters is contained within the dumped material, with this information having been removed or shredded.
While it is not possible to provide the number of complaints by electoral area, the total number of reports and the total number of successful prosecutions in each of the years 2018 and 2019 is set out below:
Year | 2018 | 2019 |
Number of Reports | 5,546 | 4,086 |
Number of successful prosecutions | 34 | 25 |
