QUESTION NO. 14
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"To ask the Chief Executive for a report into what provisions where made for Medical/GP services in the Newcastle Local Area Plan?"
REPLY:
While there are no specific policies in the Newcastle Local Area Plan relating to Medical/GP facilities, these uses will be broadly facilitated across the Newcastle LAP lands in accordance with the land use zoning objectives under the South Dublin County Development Plan 2016-2022.
The land uses which apply across the majority of the Newcastle LAP lands are set out below, including guidance from the County Development Plan (11.1.1) on the general appropriateness of particular development types or land uses, which are relevant to this query, in each land use zone:
Uses ‘open for consideration’: Doctor/Dentist, Health Centre, Primary Health Care Centre.
Uses ‘permitted in principle’: Doctor/Dentist, Health Centre, Primary Health Care Centre.
Uses ‘permitted in principle’: Doctor/Dentist, Health Centre, Primary Health Care Centre.
It is an objective of the LAP to concentrate new commercial and community development towards the Village Core along Main Street in a manner that contributes to Main Street’s vitality and viability and its re-establishment as the Village Core.
Having regard to the above, proposals for Medical/GP services in new developments and changes of use will be broadly facilitated across the LAP lands, but particularly in the Village Core.
