QUESTION NO. 30

QUESTION: Councillor Alan Hayes

To ask the chief executive to provide a report on what extra parking control measures may be possible in the vicinity of St. Lorcan's and St. Brigid's primary schools in Palmerstown.

This question is in the context where double yellow lines and yellow zig zag lines are already in place, Gardai have attended on occasion and where staff have been verbally abused when asking parents not to park illegally.

REPLY:

There is a vast network of roads in the Oval cell with ample parking provision available near the schools referenced. It is regrettable that parents will sit on double yellow lines and wait for students rather than park in a more suitable location or indeed use more sustainable modes of transport such as walking or cycling.  There is nothing further the Council can do in this regard and the matter of enforcement is a matter for An Garda Siochana.
