QUESTION NO. 5

QUESTION: Councillor William Joseph Carey

"Can the Council outline any proposed plans to upgrade the boundary wall and fence from the top of Cherrywood Crescent including estimated costs and timescale for this project?"

REPLY:

Corkagh Park boundary at Cherrywood Crescent is 306 metres long and is comprised of a 1.4 metre high palisade railing on a wall which is between 200mm and 440mm in height. The difference in wall height is due to the sloped nature of the site and the requirement to step the fence as it travels along the line of the slope. The wall is of a block construction, faced on the housing side with random limestone and finished with a sand/cement capping. The overall height of the boundary is 1.6 to 1.8 metres in height.

The newly erected boundary at the end of Cherrywood Crescent adjacent to the housing construction site is comprised of a 1.4-metre-high railing on a 600mm high wall. The cost to provide a similar boundary (without piers and limestone facing on the housing side only) along the 306m length of Cherrywood Crescent is approximately €106,000. In addition to this, the cost of removing and disposing of the existing railing and wall is approximately €30,000. The overall cost of the scheme would therefore be in the region of €136,000.  There are no plans at the present time to replace this section of the Corkagh Park boundary.
