MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

"That the Chief Executive outline steps to eradicate the burning of fires in Corkagh Park behind Bushfield Lawns."

REPORT:

A clean up of this area took place prior to Christmas when the matter was first reported. Burnt material which was removed included wheelie bin remnants which were stolen and brought into the area. To prevent this from happening, South Dublin County Council would encourage all residents not to leave their bins out for prolonged periods and only put them out on the day of collection. If bins are kept in gardens, they should be stored securely to prevent theft.

To deter a recurrence of fires, vegetation was cut back to open up the area and make it less secluded.   Additional tree thinning works are planned for Q1. Contact was also made with the local Community Garda in relation to the matter.
