QUESTION No. 21
DE SELBY/BELFRY - PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
QUESTION: Councillor K. Warren
"To ask the Manager if he could outline what proposals, if any, he intends to make in connection with a dangerous stretch of road on the N81, in the immediate vicinity of the junction to Deselby/The Belfry and given the fact that a large number of pedestrians access public transport via the bus stop on the other side of the N81 and access the local petrol station, if he would recognise the considerable danger that exists to local residents who have to run the gauntlet every day along this national primary route, if he will immediately agree to install a pedestrian crossing at this location and if he will make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
Road measures included in Transport 21 include the upgrading of the N81 (Blessington Road) to provide an extension of the existing dual carriageway beyond its present end-point at the junction with Cheeverstown Road. Given that the timeframe for completion of this extension has yet to be determined within the overall Transport 21 programme, the Roads & Traffic Department will examine the current situation at the De Selby junction to determine the feasibility of introducing short-term low-cost safety measures at this location as an interim measure.
