MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, February 19, 2020

MOTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor William Joseph Carey

"That this Committee calls upon the Council to formulate a traffic management plan to facilitate the safety of children negotiating the entrance to Sacred Heart primary school in the Sruleen area. This Committee further calls for the Council to engage a Warden to direct traffic during school hours at the entrance to the adjacent Greenpark shops. We note that this location was due to be inspected for Clondalkin Taffic Management meeting in 2018 and request that this report be made available for discussion at this meeting."

REPORT:

The school entrance is off St. John’s Drive. This is a cul -de-sac. Traffic calming is in place. There are extensive parking restrictions on the school side.

Issues that arise from the parking behaviour of those dropping off/picking up at the school are beyond the control of the Council.

With regard to the Greenpark Shops entrance, it should be noted that School Wardens do not have the training or authority to direct traffic.  Their function is to cross children safely from one side of the road to the other.
