MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan
That the Chief Executive reports on the search for a suitable temporary site for Firhouse Educate Together Secondary School.
REPORT:
Further to correspondence received from Elected Members in January 2020 in relation to the search for a suitable temporary site for Firhouse Educate Together Post Primary School (FETPPS) for the duration of construction of the permanent building at Ballycullen, the Land Use Planning & Transportation Department (LUPTD) are actively working with FETPPS and Department of Education and Skills (DES).
The DES outline that the acquisition of lands for the permanent school is progressing, however, the proposed site will not be of sufficient size to accommodate both temporary accommodation and the construction of the permanent school building and had suggested to the FETPPS that temporary accommodation available in Citywest could be utilised by the school.
In this context the FETPPS, with the support of DES, have liaised with the Planning Department regarding options for temporary facilities closer to the Firhouse catchment area. A site, owned by the Council, has been identified on lands between Stocking Lane (to the south) and Stocking Avenue (to the north), adjacent to the roundabout. The FETPPS are currently investigating the site’s suitability for their temporary needs with a view to applying for planning permission once they are satisfied with the site feasibility and the necessary consents are in place.
