QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor P. Gogarty

To ask the Chief Executive for an update on rat outbreaks near Stratton in Adamstown, at Griffeen Valley Park and at Hermitage Park, to outline what measures the Council has taken and whether the laying of bait is sufficient or if additional actions are required.

REPLY:

Enquiries referred to the Public Realm Section in relation to rats are investigated and should evidence of rats be found a number of actions can be taken. This may include the removal of vegetation, the removal of litter which may include a food source that is attracting rats or issuing an order to treat the area with pest control. Generally, it is found that laying bait does successfully deal with the issues and this has been carried out at the Griffeen Valley Park and Hermitage Park sites. Hermitage Park has a high concentration of rats and a follow up treatment has been organised.

Enquiries in relation to rats in private households are directed to the Health Service Executive. They have advised that they provide a free service for the treatment of rats in private households; which covers both house and garden. They can be contacted on (1850) 211774.

Stratton in Adamstown has not been taken in charge and any issue with rats on open spaces at this location would be a matter for the landowner.
