MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

This committee asks the Chief Executive to provide a report in relation to the Wall Ball in Griffeen Park, to include what new features are included and if it can be confirmed if the electric gate at this location will be installed soon. 

REPORT:

The Ball Wall currently under construction at the entrance to the Esker Park section of Griffeen Valley Park is a result of a local public vote as part of the Lucan "300K have your say" Participatory Budgetary Process. This project scored quite highly in the results and SDCC proceeded to consult further with stakeholders in the area prior to commencing the construction of same.

The Ball Wall construction stage is underway, and as part of the works for the Ball Wall some of the arisings have been used to level out uneven ground in the surrounding area. The completion of works include the cultivation and seeding of the grass area, which is programmed for Spring time.   In addition the lining of the court area is weather dependant so it is envisaged that portion of the works will also be finalised in the Spring, or once temperatures are sufficiently high.

An electric gate is not included as part of the above Ball Wall works and the budget did not include for same; however the Operations and Maintenance section report that this is a project they have under consideration as part of the minor improvement works programme. This work has been subject to recent tenders and those tenders are currently being considered.
