QUESTION NO. 12

QUESTION: Councillor L. Kinsella-Colman

To ask the chief executive to produce a report for discussion on an upgrade of the car park and surrounding green spaces of Quarryvale shopping centre?

REPLY:

The car park at the Greenfort/Shancastle shopping centre at Quarryvale is owned by South Dublin County Council. The area was assessed as a potential site under our Villages 2 Programme, along with 60 other potential locations. The assessment made on each location had a set criteria in place, which included Lands in Charge, Potential Impact (footfall) and Business Development, while also assessing if other potential schemes would complement other schemes being undertaken by SDCC. While the Greenfort scheme ranked highly on some criteria,  overall it did not rank high enough, to make the short list for the first round of schemes.

This location will be included in the next round of schemes, with the Programme being managed by Land Use Planning and Transportation Department, who are in the early stages of planning for this round, and as such have not considered the scope and cost of the selected areas. This will feed into budgeting and programming, and as a result LUPT would not be in a position to suggest an overall time scale at this stage.
