COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN/PALMERSTOWN/FONTHILL AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 14
QUESTION: Councillor Joanna Tuffy
To ask the Chief Executive for an update on the feasibility of extending the mobile library service to estates in or near Lucan Village not currently served by the Mobile Library service.
REPLY:
“The Mobile Library Service in South Dublin county is working at full capacity to deliver library services around the county with 45 public stops. A full listing of the routes and stops for the public, along with school drops and creches is outlined in Headed Item (6) Library News and Events. The timetable was adjusted last summer to incorporate a new stop in Lucan at Esker Meadow View, which is going well. The stops are monitored by library staff to ascertain the busiest stops, but also accommodating a spread across the county, where no fixed library service exists.
The mobile library timetable operates 4.5 days per week with a four day late evening service. As our two new libraries are opening in 2020 at North Clondalkin and Castletymon, there may be room in the timetable to identify new stops and service provision, if the current stops in North Clondalkin and Castletymon are adjusted.
The Mobile Library service will continue to give a fair geographic spread across the county, considering social demographics and communities with greatest needs. The placement of any stops also requires that adequate health and safety checks are carried out regarding traffic and public safety”.
