SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO. 35
QUESTION: Councillor Shane Moynihan
To ask the Chief Executive about the progress made by South Dublin County Council with regard to the Strategic Plan agreed with Palmerstown Tidy Towns, and if he will make a statement on the matter.
REPLY:
Palmerstown Tidy Town Committee are on Year 3 of their 5 Year Plan. SDCC Community Worker is currently working with and supporting Palmerstown Tidy Towns by liaising with a number of departments to identify areas of work as outlined in the plan.
SDCC fully support and appreciate the work by the Palmerstown Tidy Towns volunteers. The 5 Year plan has given the committee structure and focus, outlining proposed works / projects for each year of the plan. Over the last number of years Palmerstown Tidy Towns have steadily increase their points in the national Tidy Town Competition as follows:
2019 275
2018 264
2017 256
Like other Committees, Palmerstown plan identifies a number of areas, including infrastructure, heritage, sustainability and community aesthetics. Improvement works are ongoing in the area, including a heritage trail and works on the Monastic settlement on Mill Lane. Whilst the area at the N4 / Village interchange remains a challenge we will endeavour to work with the committee to ensure an agreeable outcome. The Environment Department support community clean ups with equipment, materials and collections.
Since 2018 SDCC has financed and organised training aimed at improving local committee scores, with an annual day trip to meet with other Tidy Towns Committees, training on filling in Entry Forms and Community Planting. Further training will be provided in March/April 2020 to all Tidy Town Groups in the County.
