QUESTION: Councillor E. O'Brien
To ask the Chief Executive if he intends to maintain the old tennis courts in Griffeen Valley Park as a car park ahead of the completion of the new swimming pool and if so when is it intended to properly mark out the area as a car park for patrons who continue to use the amenity centre.
REPLY:
The removal of Tennis Courts at Lucan was included in the Part 8 Planning for the new Lucan Pool.
Staff from the Sports and Recreation Office engaged with Dublin Parks Tennis League in early 2019 and provided information and advice on sourcing alternative locations for tennis courts.
A proposal from Dublin Parks Tennis League received in Nov 2019 to relocate the Courts to a site adjacent to the new Pool is not feasible due to a lack of space required for tennis courts.
Proposals are being made for 3 new courts Airlie Park as part of the Adamstown SDZ, which is as preliminary design stage and the Sport and Recreation Office together with the Parks Department are engaging with Tennis Ireland on the provision of tennis facilities in the County, the outcome of which will inform future supports to tennis in the County.
Car Park
Following an examination of the exiting temporary car park, it is proposed to carry out further works to the car park.
The intent is to more clearly define the car park by the application of clear surface markings, which will also include:
South Dublin County Council are engaging with the Contractor on site with a view to have the above works completed as soon as possible.
