QUESTION NO. 31

QUESTION: Councillor L. O'Toole

To ask the Chief Executive to confirm to the committee what are the implications to the housing strategy and if there are any challenges for the department when developments in Adamstown are bought up by cuckoo (or vulture) funds.

REPLY:

In accordance with the Council's Housing Strategy,  there is a social housing requirement of 10% applicable to planning permissions for housing on all lands zoned solely for residential use, or for a mixture of residential and other uses, save in specified circumstances where an increased element may be acceptable. The Housing Strategy includes an analysis of demand and supply for the different sectors of the housing market, forecast future requirements and propose strategies to balance demand and supply in a sustainable manner.

The Council engage with developers in the Adamstown area in respect of Part V provision and social housing for delivery by the Council directly or through the Approved Housing Body sector. The Council has no engagement directly with investor companies who may acquire housing from developers within the Adamstown area.
