COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN/PALMERSTOWN/FONTHILL AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, January 28, 2020
MOTION NO. 22
MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
That the Chief Executive report if there are any plans (and what options are available, or can a mechanism be found), given the proposed development on the Fassinage/former Pool Hall site on the Old Lucan Road, to facilitate and accommodate residents of the Palmerstown area who are in private houses but who wish to move to a smaller independent/supported residential unit within the community. By allocating even two or three of the proposed units for this purpose it would be possible to gauge the (expressed demand over the past few years) for such an option by a number of Palmerstown Residents.
REPORT:
The Council's Housing Allocations Scheme makes provision for a Financial Contribution Scheme in relation to Older Persons. Section 8 of the Allocations Scheme refers to the Financial Contriubution Scheme where Older Persons, who are owners of private dwellings and who find their existing dwelling too large for their needs, may apply for accommodation in designated Older Persons Dwellings subject to the payment of a financial contribution.
Applicants under this section will not be prioritised ahead of Older Persons on the Housing or Transfer Lists but will be included on the list from the date of approval. Applicants under this section must offer their existing dwelling to the Council for purchase in the first instance.
Local Residents in the Palmerstown Area can register their interest in the Financial Contribution Scheme to the Council. All expressions of interest received will be reviewed by the Council's allocations team in line with the adopted Allocations Scheme.
