COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE
Wednesday, December 18, 2019
MOTION NO. 13
MOTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"That this Area Committee requests a full and detailed report for discussion into what flood alleviation measures/drainage works are being taken or/and are planned to reduce surface water flooding in Corkagh Park. Given that currently the ground has never been so saturated and waterlogged underfoot and this is prior to more than a thousand further housing units being built on lands adjoining the park. Local Residents are very concerned at the risk of flooding."
REPORT:
In October 2019 the River Camac Flood Alleviation Scheme commenced with AECOM Ireland Consulting Engineers appointed to undertake the preliminary design. This is a full catchment study which includes the Camac River itself, its tributaries and the surface water pipes that feed them.
The scheme is currently in the data gathering stage and two public events were recently held in Kilmanaham and Clondalkin where local residents and stakeholders were invited to pass on their local knowledge regarding the river to the project team. A full site walkover has also taken place which included Corkagh Park.
Dublin City Council are the lead contracting authority and South Dublin County Council form part of the project steering group. The Office of Public Works are the funding authority and technical advisors for the Flood Alleviation Scheme.
