COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN/PALMERSTOWN/FONTHILL AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 13
MOTION: Councillor Shane Moynihan
Cathaoirleach's Business
That this Area Committee calls for the installation of CCTV on Foxdene Green as a deterrent to recurrent episodes of anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping.
REPORT:
Foxdene open space is located between the roads of Foxdene Green, Foxdene Avenue, Foxdene Park and Foxdene Drive. From a supervision perspective it is ideally located with housing looking onto it from all four sides and road frontage on all sides. There are no isolated areas on the green and this has the added benefit of deterring antisocial activities or dumping.
The provision of CCTV on open spaces such as this is not going to deter antisocial activities or dumping. This has already been tried in the adjacent open space at Méile an Rí and has proven to be ineffective.
Residents who witness dumping should report the matter to the Litter Enforcement Section. The Council can take enforcement action through the Litter Pollution Act where evidence of polluters can be found in dumped material. This is often not possible due to the absence of evidence. A prosecution however may be possible where a witness is available to testify.
Residents who experience anti-social activities are encouraged to contact an Garda Siochána who have the power to enforce the law under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Acts.
