MOTION NO. 4

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

"That the Chief Executive support speed cameras on Brownstown Road, a mirror at the exit of Relicken Lane onto the Brownstown Road, a mirror at the junction of the Brownstown/Loughtown Road with the Hazelhatch Road and lastly 'Children at Play' signs on the Relicken Lane."

REPORT:

The Council does not install speed cameras. Speed cameras are an enforcement tool and fall under the remit of An Garda Siochana.

The Council does not install traffic mirrors nor does it permit them to be erected in the public realm.

Mirrors are of very limited use during hours of darkness, they have very poor perception of speed and distance and while they may reduce blind spots they do not eliminate them.

If they become even slightly misaligned they have no benefit and may produce a false sense of safety.

Relickeen Lane (also known as Brownstown Lane) is a narrow rural cul de sac. The erection of Children at Play signs in not appropriate to this location.
