QUESTION NO. 8
QUESTION: Councillor F. Timmons
"To ask the Chief Executive to issue a report into what happened to voting cards in the recent Bye Election in this area. Many reported having received no voting cards? Also many reported having been removed from the register when they went to vote and couldn't vote? Can a report detailing what action will be taken to address this prior to the pending General Election?"
REPLY:
The Polling Day Order was signed on the 7th November announcing 29th November 2019 as the day for taking the poll at the Bye-Elections in Dublin Mid-West. A supplement to the register was announced to enable any person not on the current register to submit a registration form to enable them to vote. Every Elector who submitted an application form before closing date received a polling card enabling them to vote in the Bye Election. Nobody is removed from the register unless we receive information from the Elector advising that they have moved address or if a person is deceased and we receive official notification they then will be removed from the register. The Draft Register 2020-21 was published on the 1st November 2019 and comes into force on the 1st February 2020. This is the live register which remains in force until the 1st February the following year. This register will be used for any subsequent Election which may be held during the lifetime of the Register. If a General Election is called there will be supplement to the current register to enable people to register to vote.
Please be advised that the closing date for the Supplement to the Register of Electors is Tuesday 12th November 2019
