QUESTION NO. 17
QUESTION: Councillor D. O'Donovan
To ask the Chief Executive, regarding the work taking place in Kiltipper Park and the new stone wall being built at the waterworks entrance, what steps SDCC is taking to facilitate the extra traffic, litter, anti social behaviour etc which this could bring.
REPLY:
Kiltipper Park is one of the County's more rural parks and marks the transition between suburban residential development and the rural areas of South Dublin. Kiltipper Park is also in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains and is adjacent to areas of ecological and environmental sensitivity and farmlands.
Works are currently underway for Phase 1 of Kiltipper Park which includes new entrances, a car park and footpaths. Bins will be provided as and if required; though people are asked to comply with the principles of 'leave no trace': http://www.leavenotraceireland.org/seven-principles
The funding for these capital works was accessed from the Department of Rural and Community Affairs to enable active recreation and the works currently underway are focused on facilitating walking with links to the Dublin Mountains Way and completing a portion of the Dodder Greenway proposals. The works will also facilitate increased activity within of the park which the Council has found increases passive surveliiance and tends to decrease anti social behaviours.
