MOTION NO. 5

MOTION: Councillor Alan Edge

To request an update on the sewage outflow in Dodder Valley Park between Mount Carmel and Cherryfield and, specifically, on works to clean the area surrounding the cages following the recent sewage leaks caused by the heavy rain.

REPORT:

The Dodder Valley Sewer is an Irish Water trunk sewer. The manhole in question which is just downstream of the M50 has been surrounded by a fence to contain any debris in the event of a surcharge at this location on the main Dodder Valley Trunk sewer.

SDCC working under the service level agreement with Irish Water cleared the area around and inside the fence on 15th November following a surcharge at the manhole.  The area was inspected again on 25th November and the problem had not recurred. Irish Water are examining options to upgrade the Dodder Valley Sewer, a significant capital investment would be required.

Members are reminded that Irish Water have established a Local Representative Service Desk.  This service desk can be contacted at localrepsupport@water.ie or at 1890 178 178.  Irish Water also arrange Councillor clinics, and typically these take place quarterly in County Hall and Irish Water send invites directly to members.
