QUESTION NO.14
QUESTION: Councillor Alan Edge
To ask the Chief Executive for a breakdown of the new sports facilities at the Mount Carmel site in Dodder Valley Park and for a report on whether the pitches have been allocated and how the allocation process works.
REPLY:
The future plans for Mount Carmel include 1 grass soccer pitch, 1 grass athletics track and a BMX track. Old Bawn include 1 grass soccer pitch, 1 grass GAA/ Rugby sized pitch and 1 small underage grass GAA pitch (existing).
Construction commenced on site on the grass pitch and athletic track at Mount Carmel earlier in October. Following completion the area will need 12-18 months to establish. It is estimated that the facilities will be ready to use in Spring/Summer 2021, weather dependant. The BMX track is not included in the current phase of works. The works at Oldbawn involves relocating a soccer pitch and Rugby/GAA pitch on existing grass. These facilities should be available for use in Spring/Summer of next year, again weather dependent. The small sized existing GAA pitch will be retained in its current position.
Once pitches are completed and playable these will also be allocated in line with the Council's Pitch Allocation/Sporting Facilities Policy and Conditions.
