MOTION NO. 21
MOTION: Councillor L. O'Toole
The Adamstown community has made requests for the Adamstown Community Centre to be included as a ‘polling station’ as part of the public consultation process which took place recently. This committee requests the CE to support this community in their endeavors to having a new polling station in the Adamstown area. If the response could include a report on submission made to date.
REPORT:
South Dublin County Council issued notice that a Draft Polling Scheme had been produced and was available for consultation, this was advertised in the Local Newspapers on Thursday 3rd October 2019 and on the Council's website and social media forums. Submissions were invited in relation to the Draft Polling Scheme to be received or before 5 p.m. on the 6th November 2019. Two of the submissions received were in relation to a request to provide a polling place in Adamstown to cater for the increased residential developments in the area.
As part of the preparation of the draft scheme a meeting was held with the County Sheriff's Office as, among others, the requisitioning of a polling station is the remit of the Sheriff’s office. The current Polling District 'Airlie' was discussed in relation to the provision of a polling station in the Adamstown area and a decision was made that this Polling District would be split with a new polling station to be procured for residents in and around the Adamstown area. The Sheriff’s office informed the Council that Adamstown Community Centre, Station Road, Adamstown, Lucan, Co Dublin is to be requisitioned as a new polling station for the area.
The Draft Polling Scheme will come before the Council at the December 2019 meeting for adoption and will come into force in February 2020. All changes to polling arrangements will come into effect on adoption of the Polling Scheme and publication of the live Electoral register 2020/21 in February 2020.
