SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
"That this Area Committee gives a full and detailed update on the the three community centres promised for the areas:
Newcastle Community Centre, Saggart Community Centre and Clondalkin Community Centre."
REPORT:
Saggart Community Centre
The purchase of the old St Mary's National School has been completed. A Management Company made up local residents and statutory support agencies has been formed - Saggart School House Community Centre CLG. Council Architects have been engaged and a design brief for the proposed new community facility will be put together shortly. An Expression of Interest will be made to Rural Dublin Leader as the first stage of the application process to be made by the new Management Company to apply for Leader funding to assist with construction costs.
Newcastle Community Centre
The Council is continuing to examine all potential opportunities for suitable locations for a community facility for the Newcastle Village area. A number of options have been explored so far, but have been deemed unsuitable. Budget provision remains within the proposed Capital Programme (2020-22) to assist with costs for the provision, should a suitable site be located.
Orchard Road Community Centre
Orchard Lane is not yet in the ownership of the Council. The Council are engaging with the owners of the site and their legal representatives to secure the possession of the unit for the establishment of the community facility.
On that basis, provision is being made within the upcoming Capital Programme Budget (2020-2022) to allocate funding towards the costs of assisting with the fit costs of the Community Facility on Orchard Road which will be used primarily to cater for the needs of active groups in the Clondalkin area.
